A carbon footprint tool dedicated to the cleaning sector

The French FEP (Fédération des Entreprises de Propreté) has developed a tool for managing emissions of greenhouse gases dedicated to cleaning companies. Elaborated according to the methodology of the ADEME’s carbon footprint (French Environment & Energy Management Agency), this tool allows companies to establish a carbon footprint in adequacy with the sector’s specifics and action plan.

Detailed Solution description

As part of its Sustainable Development Program, developed since 2007, the FEP has decided to help the sector companies reduce their environmental impact.

The FEP has developed a tool for managing emissions of greenhouse gases dedicated to cleaning companies, CarbonArtik. Elaborated according to the methodology of the ADEME’s carbon footprint, this tool allows companies to establish a carbon footprint in adequacy with the sector’s specifics and action plan.

The platform CarbonArtik is set to answer the problems of the cleaning sector: optimizing travel, waste recovery, energy management of buildings, purchase of cleaning products…

CarbonArtik allows cleaning companies to cut costs and meet their client’s expectations, themselves engaged in a process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is also a driver for innovation, which enables to rethink the company’s organization, to optimize its procedures, create value and give a visibility to a commitment to sustainable development.

This online platform is based on the ENABLON technology, a software publisher for extra financial reporting.

This tool was created to be economically convenient to all businesses: available as an annual subscription with 3 years of commitment, the price varies according to the size of the company (€200 to € 6,000).

In addition, the FEP provides assistance to businesses to achieve their balance of greenhouse gas.

Experiment launched in April 2013.

Solution Partners

- Fare Propreté (operator of the cleaning industry, in charge of the implementation of sectorial projects at a local level) co-financing the tool
- ADEME: co-financing the tool and validation of the methodology implementation
- CTIP (technical center for cleanliness): CarbonArtik management platform
- Greenflex, a consulting firm in sustainable development: implementation of the sector guide, assistance in the development tool and experimentation

Performance, impact and results

Environmental
Reducing the environmental impact of cleaning companies linked to the movement of maintenance workers and other employees, customer’s freight transport and energy consumption (lighting, heating, water consumption).

Social/societal
Improving employee-working conditions, including the reduction of distance and transportation time.

Economic
Reducing costs linked to expenditure in fossil fuels and proposal solutions to optimize resources.
