In cooperation with the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International (SEMI), academia, and the local industry, ITRI has successfully promoted its industry specifications for new-generation photovoltaics to become the SEMI PV57-1214 Standard in 2014.

This is the first time that Taiwan has led the way for a new photovoltaic standard for the industry globally. It is important as new PV cell technologies, such as organic photovoltaic and dye-sensitized solar cells, are expected to rapidly make headway into consumer electronics, wearable devices and residential building applications. With SEMI PV57-1214, the current and voltage characteristics of these new PV cells can be tested and compared; their energy conversion efficiencies can also be certified.

ITRI has completed the development of a set of tests and measurement equipment for providing certification services to the global market, such as the Multi-Function Test System, Thermal Cycling Test System, Indoor Multi-Light Source of Measurement System, and LED-Based Solar Simulator.
